Uran Islampur is a major city in Sangli district, Uran Islampur Municipal Council was established on Dated 16-11-1853. According to the 2001 census, the population of the city is 58330. Uran-Islampur Municipality is a "B" Class Municipality. The area of Uran-Islampur city is 4042 hectares. [ref needed]

There are a total of 26 wards in the municipal limits and 26 corporators are elected from them. Also there are 3 nominated members in the municipality. From the western boundary of the city to Pune Bangalore National Highway no. 4 is generally 2.5 km, Peth-Sangli State Road no. 138 passes through the city.

Civil facilities

A water supply scheme is in operation to provide clean drinking water to the citizens of the city. The city has water tanks with a capacity of 1) 7 lakh 2) 7.5 lakh 3) 7.5 lakh liters respectively and water is supplied to the said tanks in two stages from Krishna river from a distance of 11 km. Uran-Islampur municipal council is probably the only municipal council in the state to levy water tariff through water meter. Narsingpur is 10 km from this village. Islampur city has some famous colleges like Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil College, KRP Kanya, Malti Kanya and R. This includes engineering colleges like IT College. Islampur is a Nimgramin city. The main part of this city is Uran, from where it can be seen that the city has really expanded. That is why the original name of this city is called Uran-Islampur. There is a big temple of Shankara in this Uran area. There are eight temples in the name of Shambhuappa every year. The day is filled with a lot of Urus. There is Rajarambapu Patil Cooperative Sugar Factory and a big Ram Temple near it. Near the temple is Rajarambapu Patil Engineering College.
